Johnny Cash & Stunt Kites
“The guy who put a lit firecracker between his buttocks is a piker compared to the Russian soldiers who took a smoke break in an ammunition warehouse — the explosions went on for a week.” Colette Bancroft; Smarty Pants; St. Petersburg Times (Florida); Dec 9, 2007.
I think that I can be a piker at times. Maybe we all have those piker moments.
Sometimes when I go walking I feel like I’m a rotary chicken because on the way out, the sun is hitting my back, and then I turn down a different road and it hits my left side and then I turn down another road and it hits me in the face and then on the last stretch of road to home it hits me on my right side. On cooler days the warmth of the sun feels really good and I’ve learnt that it is better to walk towards it then to walk away from it.
Last weekend my friends and I went kite flying. It was fun. The sun was bright with this strange ring around it. Johnny Cash would have been proud. It reminded me of his song that he sings about a burning ring of fire. “I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down down down and the flames went higher and it burns burns burns…”
